Short answers to common questions about address lookup and validation with AFD.The AFD Integration Plugin connects your Intact system with AFD APIs to provide:
- Integrated Address Lookup: Enables quick and accurate address searches using the AFD Address Lookup API, integrated into the standard address popup window.
- Data Validation: Validates user-entered data such as telephone numbers, email addresses, and bank account details.
- Your Intact system setup must include the Integrated Address Lookup license or Data Validation license (depending on the feature you want to use).
- You need a valid AFD account with an API license and password. You can register for this at AFD's website.
- o Install the plugin on your Intact system.
- o Restart/refresh after adding the plugin for the first time.
For Address Lookup:
- Go to Configurator → System → Address Lookup Agent Settings.
- Add a new configuration using the AFD API Key and Password.
- Set the AFD Address Lookup Agent as the default provider in Company Settings.
- Update the address configuration to include the Lookup property for integration with the address popup window.
For Data Validation:
- Go to Configurator → System → Data Validation Agent Settings.
- Add a new configuration for AFD data validation using the API Key and Password.
- Specify which objects and properties to validate.

If your AFD license includes What3Words functionality, you can:
- Search for addresses using What3Words (e.g., "three.character.text").
- Store the validated What3Words location in a custom property within your Intact system.
To enable this:
- Create a custom property for addresses in your Intact ERP system.
- Map this property in the Address Lookup Agent Configuration under the What3Words Property setting.
Yes, the AFD API provides additional address-related data (e.g., NHS region, council tax band, business type). You can map these to custom properties in your Intact system by:
- Creating a custom property definition for the customer.
- Adding a Customer Property Mapping entry in the AFD Address Lookup Agent settings.
- The plugin validates user-entered data (e.g., phone numbers, email addresses, bank accounts) when objects are saved.
- Invalid data triggers a warning or error message.
- Validation results are recorded, allowing you to generate reports on objects with invalid data.
AFD provides a wide range of address-related fields, including:
- Postcode, Street, Town, County
- Organisation, Business Type, NHS Region
- Latitude, Longitude, and more.
These fields can be mapped to custom properties in your Intact ERP system for enhanced data management.
