Just a minute with Simon Jacobs

simon jacobsJust a Minute With... Simon Jacobs
Welcome to 'Just a Minute With......', where we find out a little bit more about your friendly Intacters. This edition is all about our Solutions Architect Simon Jacobs.

Name: Simon Jacobs

Title: Solutions Architect, CSO UK

My background: After graduating from Imperial College in 2010, I worked in a variety of roles with DHL as part of their operational management graduate programme. The experience gained at DHL helped me to secure a position at Ramtac Computer Systems, a software reseller. This led me to the dynamic and ever changing world of ERP Consultancy, starting off as an implementation consultant/project manager, where I managed and implemented systems for our customers, taking them from the Sales process all the way through to Go Live. This included data management, bespoke system configuration/design, writing development specifications, training end users and Project Management, which gave me a solid foundation in ERP software consultancy.

In 2016, Ramtac Computer Systems was acquired by Intact Software, and I was promoted to Senior Implementation Consultant, before transitioning over to our newly formed CSO (Customer Success Office) to work as a Technical Account Manager, proactively engaging with existing customers to ensure they’re getting the most out of our software.

What I do at Intact: Having been promoted to Solutions Architect, I now get involved in the thorough scoping of complex customer requirements that come through from Account Management, Support or other Consultants. This usually involves in depth meetings with the customer and leads to bespoke consultancy solutions or bespoke development. As Intact continues to grow rapidly, upskilling the newer consultants is becoming ever more important to our continued success, so this is also a key part of my current role.

First app checked in the morning: A bit of Instagram and a bit of Microsoft Teams (everybody knows how much I love a Teams thread).

Favourite travel location: Anywhere on the coast of the U.K. The sea, fresh air and long walks would make me say Cornwall.

Are you a coffee or tea person? Coffee. The Nespresso machine purchased at the start of 2020 was probably the best investment of my life so far.

What three items would you take with you to a deserted island? A magic fridge with unlimited food and drink options inside, gym equipment and a well-padded football.

What do you love about your job? Helping customers and staff to improve their knowledge of iQ.

In October 2023 I joined the team as part of Intact’s Graduate Programme. My academic journey began at the University of Liverpool, where I studied English Language and Literature. Feeling that one degree and three years in Liverpool weren't enough, I stayed and earned a Master's degree in Creative and Critical Writing. During my studies, I wrote for various platforms, including a student newspaper, blog articles for a famous Liverpool attraction, and even directed a play. I knew I wanted to pursue a career where I could write daily, leading me to explore the world of content marketing. At Intact, I write blog articles for our website and campaigns, compile and write content for our customer newsletter, and manage our social media channels. I’m committed to creating credible, trustworthy content, and nurturing the sense of community among our customers and staff. I enjoy the fast-paced nature of my work, where each completed task is followed by ten uncompleted ones. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues, seeking their insights and knowledge for fresh and valuable content. Outside of work, I’ll be at the gym, out for a run (jog), or exploring markets in London with friends.
