Independent lumber and building materials dealer becomes an early adopter of next-generation, cloud-native platform after outgrowing long-standing system
UK based Coomers Timber & Building Supplies is making its most significant technology change in nearly two decades, selecting the cloud native GenetiQ platform to replace a long-standing, US-based ERP system. As the business continues to modernize and expand, Coomers wanted a fresh, innovative technology foundation that matches how today’s dealers work.
After 18 years on their previous system, Coomers found that the legacy platform was no longer keeping pace with modern requirements. Product development had slowed, partner integrations were limited, and the architecture – based on remote apps and virtual machines - created day-to-day friction for the team. Connecting printers, scanners, and other peripherals was often painful, and issues meant troubleshooting across multiple layers of technology instead of simply logging into a browser.
“Changing ERP systems wasn’t a decision we took lightly,” says Charlie Stuart, Operations Manager at Coomers. “But it became obvious that our previous provider hadn’t developed their product as far as the GenetiQ platform and had a long way to go to catch up.”
These constraints were most visible online. Coomers went through multiple ecommerce rebuilds as their previous provider bought and then phased out different web platforms, forcing the business to rework its site each time and absorb additional cost and disruption. With generic, cookie-cutter screens and information that wasn’t always relevant at the counter, staff were spending too much time working around the system rather than using it to drive growth.
“We needed a technology partner that really understands how dealers like us operate and can move quickly with us,” Charlie Stuart adds. “GenetiQ gives us a modern, browser-based platform we can build on, instead of a legacy system we have to work around.”
By moving to the browser-based GenetiQ platform, Coomers are stepping away from the constraints of outdated ERP and positioning itself as an early adopter of a new generation of LBM technology, designed to surface the right information to the right people in real time.
